Lonsdale W. S. Holland graduated from Loyola College (now Concordia University) with a BA in 1954. He followed it up with an MBA from the University Western Ontario in 1957, and earned Charter number 1928 from the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute in 1968.
Lonny began his career as a bond trader in Montreal in 1957 and through his 25 years with Midland Doherty, and later companies, he worked in institutional fixed income and equity sales, management and was responsible for opening new offices in London, England, Hamburg, Germany and throughout Nova Scotia. He founded Beacon Securities Ltd in 1988.
Lonny has served on the Board of Directors of several corporations and Non Profit Groups including DeMaurier Arts Council (1992-2000) and Nova Scotia College of Arts and Design (1978-1990). He is currently serving on the Board of the Investment Dealers Association.
He crossed the Atlantic in 1985 in a 28-foot Mariner yacht with a crew of two and has been sailing in Europe and the Mediterranean each spring and summer since.
